Business Continuity Infrastructure

Multispecialty Medical Center

20 April 2023

  • Customer
  • Multispecialty medical center in Milan, offering integrated care and a service oriented to patient wellbeing.

  • Needs
  • The facility, with a historical presence in the Milan area, had just been acquired by a network of medical centers.

    The new IT management had the objective of bringing the facility up to the company standards – while maintaining the system autonomous and closed – by resolving existing problems and improving the quality of service, namely:

    -making IT processes and infrastructure compliant with GDPR regulations, with particular attention to the use of shared PCs by doctors;

    -ensuring business continuity;

    -enabling the secure sharing of diagnostic imaging to all medical staff;

    -improving the visibility and communication of services to patients, using a digital signage system;

    -standardizing and aligning office automation licenses with the vendor’s EULA for the purpose of full compliance.

  • Solution
  • In line with the customer’s request, Techlane worked on business continuity and GDPR compliance, acting on several fronts:

    -computers shared by physicians were secured and centrally controlled by creating individual user accounts for access and implementing advanced authentication systems using biometric sensors;

    -for data retention – patient folders and clinical history – a new local server was implemented along with business continuity and disaster recovery systems for all PCs and servers;

    -appropriate procedures for technological onboarding and offboarding of resources were implemented;

    -the physical network was restructured, with managed and maintained switches and access points;

    -the security of the Wi-Fi network was strengthened – a lot of diagnostic data is transmitted through this network – with adequate segmentation and through the use of strong encryption protocols.

    Regarding the secure sharing of diagnostic imaging with all medical staff, ultrasound data is now transmitted to the local server and to the cloud management system.

    Finally, regarding the need for a digital signage system, Techlane implemented a solution suitable for multi-location realities, with remote centralization of content collection and distribution, as well as maintenance, and a contained economic impact.
